SHORT BIO
Dr. Kirk “Captain” N. Phillips is a Pentagon 9/11 survivor, retired 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Afghanistan veteran, author, educator, and organizational leader. On September 11, 2001, he was working inside the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the building. He survived the attack, returned to work at the Pentagon, and later volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan.
Following his military service, Phillips built a career spanning government, industry, education, technology, organizational transformation, and artificial intelligence. He earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Organizational Innovation from Marymount University and continues to research and speak on leadership, AI, education, generational change, military service, and the importance of preserving firsthand history.
His memoir, A Breath Away From Eternity: The Long Road Home, explores not simply what it means to survive, but what comes after survival—returning to family, career, purpose, and ordinary life after extraordinary events. His message twenty-five years after 9/11 is simple: “We are all only a breath away from eternity, so the life we have right now matters.”
